“RECYCLING BORO STYLE” with Pam Woodward
July 8 to 9: 10 a.m. to 4 pm.
The fascinating patched and mended utilitarian textiles of Japan are known as “boro”. Unlike most Japanese articles, boro has not been created with beauty in mind, but rather has been created out of necessity. Poverty and lack of material have prompted patching and repatching of clothing, futons, and other textiles of the home. The appeal of these articles comes from the arrangement of diverse, varied textiles held together with thoughtful stitching. With their imbued history, the honesty of these textiles end up being beautiful in spite of aesthetic concerns. With our present awareness of recycling and repurposing in mind, students will explore methods of mending textiles.
$200

This workshop is included “In the Spirit of INDIGO” Festival, May - September 2017. This is a project grant to Propeller Gallery and its community partners, funded by the Ontario Arts Council.
